The Photography of Gino Sullivan by Quinton Peeples

Art is defined by its ability to reveal something deeper, something otherwise missed.  This definition could also be applied to the photography of Gino Sullivan.  Peering into corners passed every day without a second glance, focusing attention on color and texture taken for granted, Gino's work forces the viewer to stop and take notice of the world that exists just beneath the surface.

The urban environment of Los Angeles, with its mix of cliched Hollywood glamour and decaying public edifice, serves as Gino’s subject. Its as if we are peering backwards in time at a land forgotten.  Through his use of altered color and unique framing, reminiscent of early silent films, he has created a world that seems to exist in two places at once - both past and present - memory and reality.
